Default R/Rt AoE Build - Improvement Advice / Opinions Wanted

Hi,

I've started playing again recently and my Ranger build is pretty much Barrage mixed with other low energy bow skills. I was looking for a high damage build that can take out large groups in PVE, but also still do some decent damage when the large group has been dwindled down.

I've seen several builds with R/Rt using Barrage with Splinter Weapon and before I save up some cash to go buy the skill from a trainer I was looking through the wiki at other skills that might work well.

This is what I've come up with so far, was hoping for advice on tweaking it, and filling the optional slots

R/Rt AoE Build for Grouped Targets

Marksmanship (12)
Expertise (9)
Channelling (9)

Primary Attack is 'Barrage' combined with ....

..... 'Splinter Weapon' for Maximum AoE Damage
..... 'Warmongers Weapon' for Maximum Interupts
..... 'Nightmare Weapon' to Regenerate Health

and 'I am the Strongest' if ready

1. Barrage
2. Splinter Weapon
3.
4. I am the Strongest
5. Warmongers Weapon
6. Nightmare Weapon
7. Lightening Reflexes
8.

Possible Enhancements
----------------------
* Favorable Winds
* Res Signet
* Antidote Signet
* Comfort Animal
* Serpents Quickness (speed up recharge of I am the Strongest)

Alrighty, I'm going to go ahead and assume that this is for situations when you don't already have a channeling rit in the party to cast the weapon spells on you.

I would suggest bringing triple shot. Triple shot + nightmare weapon is really good for when enemies aren't clumped enough for splinter barrage to work. Triple + nightmare does a ton of single target damage, though it isn't consistent dps. However, if you're using a splinter barrage build, consistent single-target dps isn't really what you're looking for.

Barrage + warmongers does sound really appealing. Dont get me wrong, I love mass interupts when you get to directly control who gets rupted (ex: not panic). My only problem with warmongers is that I can't really think of a situation why you would choose to use warmongers + barrage over splinter + barrage, since in situations where warmongers + barrage would be really useful, splinter + barrage would be truly devestating. Its a good idea though, and I would definitely us it on one if I had two barragers in the party.

In general Ebon vanguard standard of honor is better than "I am the strongest".

Something else you could do is, since you're R/Rt anyway, is use Favorable winds + summon spirits. With summon spirits, you can move FW around with you, thus lowering the amount of times that you have to use 5 sec to cast FW.

I've played through thus far as a R/Mo, I just thought I'd try out R/Rt for the Barrage/Splinter combo. I don't seem to be able to find information on capturing any of those weapon spells so I'm going to need to make some money to train them first. Can they be captured?

I've not played enough EotN to have any Ebon Vanguard skills yet so didn't really look into them. So does the longer duration of the standard make it work out better than the higher damage of the shout?

Doesn't Nightmare Weapon reduce the damage of triple shot? Or does 'steal health' basically mean it does the same overall damage, just giving you some back as health?

Well you have a little bit to mutch weapons spells with you. I would say chose 2 max.
Warmongers Weapon is a fun skill, but because your using it with barrage you have an interupt with a 0,75/1,25 sec casting time. While its fun it isn't realialbe, so you might want to take distracting shot as a back-up.
As suggested before you might want to take triple shot and nightmare weapon. And if you have a hero with splinter weapon it can increase your damage while being better for your own energy management.

For more information abount capture locations ect you should watch http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page.

I tend to run this most of the time, http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:R/any_PvE..._Arrows_Ranger

It's got good damage output and works well when you've balled up foes.
